Technical side

This page is intended to describe the various tools I used to create this site.

Camellias nomenclature

All camellias that appear in the nomenclature are listed on my workstation in a database created by a tool I developed in Delphi. A mouse click can export this database to the Mysql server hosting by OVH.

Tools for creating HTML pages

The pages are all written in HTML, PHP and a bit of AJAX in the search function. The layout is entirely CSS.
To write HTML pages, I use Kompozer (a NVU evolution), free tool.
For formatting and controling the HTML source, I use another free tool, Tidy that is called directly into the Crimson Editor (also free).

Tools for processing photos

For viewing and archiving photos, I use ACD See. I particularly appreciate its archiving system by category. It is cheaper to buy from Avanquest, rather than on the official site.

To modify photos, my reference tool is Adobe Photoshop Elements, included with many digital cameras.

The introduction of copyright on the pictures is done with ImageMagick (also free) which I incorporated into my nomenclature management tool so that the establishment of copyright happens automatically.

Publication on Internet

Indispensable tool, but not easy to implement, SynchronEX from Xellsoft.  Once properly set up, just two mouse clicks are sufficient to publish on the Internet all the modified objects (and only them). Similarly, I used it to carry the entire site on a USB stick from my workstation to my laptop (and vice versa).

Page Control

After publication I check the HTML syntax using the W3C Markup Validation Service.
